September
8 (Bethel/Forestburgh)
"My
husband Gene and I saw about 4 monarchs flying yesterday
in Bethel and Forestburgh. When I met my sister she said
she saw one flying in the parking lot of old Orange Plaza
in Middletown NY." |

6 (Hawthorne, NY)
"Today
we drove to a nearby cemetery to let her go [a reared
monarch]... She flew straight up and so high and far that
we very quickly lost her in the distance. We were surprised
to see several other wild Monarchs fly by us, so we figure
that we picked a good spot to release her." |

August 26 (Honesdale / Indian Orchard)
First migrants."Four
monarchs were heading SW in the afternoon, but one summer
resident was laying eggs on milkweed along the railroad
in Honesdale. At 6:30 p.m. a monarch flew across a busy
intersection on Route # 6, at Indian Orchard near Honesdale
PA. Given their southerly flight paths, I think all but the egg-laying female were early migrants." |
